Ticonderoga, NY – August 26, 2019 – Two Waters Disc Golf Course, the newest recreational opportunity in the area will officially open on Tuesday, September 10th, 2019 with a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Celebration in coordination with the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Ticonderoga.

The event will start at 5:00 PM at the Ticonderoga Recreational Areas (near field 3, the upper Ticonderoga Softball Field parking lot) with the ceremony taking place at 5:30 PM at the first tee and practice basket for the disc golf course. Light refreshments will be served following the ribbon cutting and a walking tour of the beautiful new course will be offered. Custom stamped discs to commemorate the occasion will be available for purchase.

Two Waters Disc Golf has been an ongoing project in the heart of beautiful Ticonderoga, NY. When complete, it will be an 18-hole disc golf course that plays through the woods around the Ticonderoga Recreation Park across from the LaChute River (currently 14 holes are complete). The volunteer committee plans to have at least two sets of tees per hole, allowing different challenges for each skill level.  In addition, they are planning to implement permeant signage and host clinics as well as tournaments.

Issac Pendell and George Brown have been heading up the project to benefit the community, visitors, and attract disc golfers to the area. Additional volunteers are being sought to help with the project. If you are interested in helping, send a message via the Two Waters Disc Golf Facebook Page .

The duo has been working with the Town of Ticonderoga Parks & Rec Committee, PRIDE of Ticonderoga, Town of Ticonderoga Clerk Tonya Thompson, Town of Ticonderoga Supervisor Joe Giordano, and the Ticonderoga Chamber of Commerce Team as well as local businesses and organizations to enhance the Ticonderoga Recreation Park by adding the disc golf course and by utilizing mostly unused areas.

“We are very excited about the new recreational activity available in the Ticonderoga Recreational areas. This is an opportunity that was not available in the past. One of the best features is that this sport is free to participate in. You simply need to purchase the discs. It is also an activity for people of all ages and skill level. We greatly appreciated the effort of George and Issac to make this project possible,” stated Joyce Cooper – Town of Ticonderoga Councilwoman and Parks & Rec Committee Chairperson.

PRIDE of Ticonderoga who is a partner with the Town of Ticonderoga and the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce secured grant funding via the Clinton/Essex County Creating Healthy Schools & Communities Program. The Town of Ticonderoga was awarded $4,000 via this funding source to assist in implementing this project.

Disc Golf is very similar to regular golf but it is played with special Frisbees referred to as discs. It has been shown that disc golf encourages people of all ages and physical abilities to be active and enjoy the outdoors. It also creates a positive presence in the areas it covers and discourages unwanted activities.

“We intend to create a course that allows many levels of players to thoroughly enjoy being active. Beginners and professionals will enjoy this course with the implementation of multiple tee (starting) locations on each hole. We would like to thank everyone for their support to make this project possible,” shared – George Brown IV.

Additional donations and sponsorships to support this project are needed to finish the construction of the tees, install the kiosk, create additional signage for the course, and other projects. Two Waters Disc Golf Course has a number of sponsorship and recognition levels. Checks can be made payable to DisCap (a 501c3 non-profit organization) that is partnered with the local disc golf course. For more information contact George and Issac via the Two Waters Disc Golf facebook page.

“We are excited that this new recreational opportunity will be available in Ticonderoga. This, added with our current recreational activities, truly gives options for all of the community and visitors alike. We look forward to increased tourist traffic from clinics, tournaments and Disc Golf enthusiasts,” commented Matthew Courtright – TACC President & CEO.
